From a trip to Italy in April 2000. I had been playing at a festival in Venice over Easter, and went to see some friends in Milano afterwards. I knew two people there, who were both studying at the School of Music - one was a singer who had studied with me in Bremen, the other a fellow harpist whom I knew from my time in New York. I didn't even realize they knew each other, but when I got there (I was staying with the harpist), it turned out the two of them had actually become best friends! So we all went on an outing to Lago Maggiore, which was gorgeous in springtime, and I did a few drawings there. "Isola Bella" is called that because it is really beautiful - I'm not sure if it comes across in my drawing, which is from what I should call my "impatient period" - at the time, I would really rather have had a photo camera, I think! :-)
